Pañcasatikakkhandhaka

The Pañcasatikakkhandhaka, “the Chapter on the assembly of five hundred”, tells the story of the first communal recitation (<i lang='pi' translate='no'>saṅgīti</i>) of the discourses of the Buddha at Rājagaha, otherwise known as “the first council”. Ānanda, the Buddha’s personal attendant, recited the discourses, while Upāli recited the Monastic Law.
